The year 1996 was a memorable one for Greg Furman. He was a freshman in college majoring in physical therapy, his favorite band Tool had just released their second studio album, and the Internet was in full swing. Greg had also just gotten his first computer. "I remember that learning to use it was like putting together a puzzle. If one thing didn't work, I would try something else until I figured it out," he said. This led to a serious decision - "I became fascinated with computers and wanted to learn everything about them, so I switched my major to Computing and Information Technology."
When 200-plus employees moved into Urban's new Philadelphia office digs last September, the enhanced space, better amenities, and beautiful views created quite an impression. What wasn't noticed, however, was the company's transition to a more advanced IT infrastructure and operating system. This was exactly as Greg and his IT colleagues had planned. "An incredible amount of preparation was involved, beginning even before the site was officially confirmed and spanning over the course of a year," Greg said. "Our goal was to make the transition seamless."
Greg was responsible for migrating the servers to the new space quickly, efficiently, and securely, and ensuring that all systems, including printers, scanners, copiers, and workstations were operational when employees arrived at their new locations. The result of this significant effort? Almost zero downtime and service interruptions for employees, resulting in business as usual for Urban and its clients. "The absolute most enjoyable aspect of my job is working with individuals who enjoy the work that they do. To help contribute to their success is very gratifying."
