Urban is pleased to share that Bradley International Airport’s new consolidated rental car facility (ConRAC) was named a 2023 Project of the Year by Airport Business magazine. Urban managed the civil engineering elements of the developer-led project, which was valued at $210 million.
“We would like to congratulate the Connecticut Airport Authority and Bradley International Airport on this recognition, as well as our partners PGAL and Conrac Solutions / Austin Commercial,” said Dale Russell, PE, an Urban associate vice president and national practice leader for aviation. “Our firm is proud to have played a part in creating this amazing facility, which capped more than 12 years of challenging yet rewarding work by Urban Engineers at the airport,”
After five years of planning and construction, which took place at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the new state-of-the-art facility opened last year. The ConRAC was a key component of a major renovation at Bradley. The ConRAC consists of a new five-level return garage, a five-level quick turn-around facility and garage, a new public entrance and multi-level operations building, and associated infrastructure. Urban’s services included project management, planning, and client coordination. The team's focus was coordinating the design and construction with local roadway design and construction, new utilities and utility relocations, stormwater management, and environmental permitting efforts.
Urban also assisted with estimating and scheduling for the project and worked with contractors and developers to reduce costs, minimize earthwork, reduce the time for construction, and maximize the use of a highly constrained site. The firm has completed previous civil and site work for the Bradley ConRAC site, which enabled the firm to offer valuable recommendations to contractors.
