Urban Engineers is pleased to announce that Kelvin Lafond, MS, CSP, ASP, ASHM, has been hired as the corporate safety director. He will be responsible for directing, developing and overseeing the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization.

In his new position, Mr. Lafond will ensure the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or engineering/construction-specific regulations. He has expertise in safety management, planning, quality assurance, and providing sound improvement solutions. At Urban, he will focus on providing construction and design safety programs including, but not limited to, safety orientations, safety training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, and the use of protective equipment. He will be based in the firm’s Cherry Hill, NJ, location. His previous experience includes working at American Water to develop and implement delivery and verification of enterprise health and safety programs. Prior to that, Mr. Lafond worked as the safety officer for DLA Distribution in Yokosuka, Japan. He also served as a Command Safety and Quality Assurance Representative during his military career.
Mr. Lafond earned his Bachelor of Science in liberal studies from Excelsior College, as well as a Master of Science in occupational health and safety from Columbia Southern University. He is a Certified Safety Professional and Associate Safety Professional through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, and an Associate Safety and Health Manager certified by the Institute for Safety and Health Management. He has background working in military, federal, and corporate environments.
