Urban is pleased to announce that the Lyndhurst Rail Station Replacement project was recognized with a New Jersey’s Leading Capital Construction Project award. The competition and award gala was hosted by the New Jersey Alliance for Action at a virtual ceremony.
“We would like to congratulate New Jersey Transit and other key partners on the ongoing success of this project and on this recognition from the Alliance,” said Thomas Nodar, an Urban vice president and practice leader for transit/construction management. “We are proud to have played a part in the project through our construction management service. This replacement is a great example of what can be done when organizations work as a team to improve an important infrastructure project.”
NJ Transit is replacing the 107-year-old Lyndhurst Rail Station with a modern facility that will be closer to the commuter parking lot and aesthetically linked to the surrounding historic neighborhood. The new station will include ADA-accessible high-level platforms; station buildings on both the inbound and outbound tracks, stairs; four elevators; lighting, canopies; CCTV systems, and new parking.
Project challenges included installing a sheet piling support system to allow excavation for foundation construction of the station building under a single track outage; excavating and installing mini piles to construct the building foundations; re-positioning the signal system conduit; and installing utilities via “jack and bore” through the railroad embankment. Urban has been providing construction management service on this project and the team includes three DBE subconsultants which augment our field inspection staff.
Urban supports some of the biggest construction projects in the nation in diverse markets, including highway, bridge, transit, airport, facility, and ports and waterways. The firm’s construction managers facilitate communication and collaboration among designers, owners, contractors and others involved in each project. Urban co-authored the Quality Management Guidelines for the Construction Management Association of America, and its commitment to construction management excellence and continuing education attracts industry leaders.
The New Jersey Alliance for Action's mission is to improve the state’s economy through the promotion of capital construction and infrastructure investment. Additionally, the Alliance has been recognized as one of New Jersey’s best associations for networking opportunities.
