Urban is pleased to announce that the March of Dimes honored the firm’s US 422 at Valley Forge project and its staff at the annual PHL Transportation Building Construction (TB&C) Luncheon held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The US 422 project was given the Philadelphia Highway Project Award, while the firm's staff was recognized for being the March for Babies Team Champion by raising the most money for the 2021 TB&C Industry Challenge. Additionally, Urban Senior Vice President Matt Marquardt, PE, was honored for his service to the organization.

“We are excited to congratulate our client PennDOT and all of the team members who came together for the US 422 at Valley Forge project, which was deservedly recognized by March of Dimes,” said Mr. Marquardt. “Our firm and our people have historically shown support for the mission of March of Dimes, and we are proud that our team was recognized as the March for Babies Team Champion.”

With increasing development in King of Prussia, traffic congestion routinely impacts commuters on US 422 over the Schuylkill River. To reduce congestion, Urban designed modern structures to carry US 422 over the river, a nearby railroad, streets, and trails. To match the picturesque view of the river, the bridge features combination wall and tulip-shaped column piers with architectural surface treatments.

Earlier this year, the US 422 at Valley Forge project was honored as the Best Project in the highway/bridge category by ENR MidAltantic, with a Diamond Award Certificate by ACEC’s Pennsylvania chapter, and was named Project of the Year in the over $20 million category by ASHE Delaware Valley. Both organizations requested Urban Senior Project Manager R. Robert Morrison, PE, to give presentations on the project at their respective spring conferences and meetings. In addition, features of the US 422 Schuylkill River Bridge have been published in Roads & Bridges magazine and Highway Builder magazine.

Every year, 15 million babies are born prematurely worldwide, and 1 million will die before their first birthday. March of Dimes funds research, education, advocacy, and programs that help more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.
