Urban is pleased to announce that Carol Martsolf, PE, PMP, CPTD, LEED AP, F.ASCE has been sworn in as Region 2 Director of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). She is the first woman elected to the position for this region. Ms. Martsolf serves as a vice president and leads Urban’s Training Institute at the firm’s Philadelphia headquarters.

“I am honored to have been sworn into this international leadership position by my colleagues in ASCE,” Ms. Martsolf said. “ASCE is one of the most important organizations in the engineering industry and I plan to continue its mission to lead the civil engineering profession to sustainably advance and protect the health, safety, and welfare of all.”

“ASCE is committed to Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion – or JEDI - in civil engineering and we are making visible progress,” said Maria Lehman, ASCE President. “I am thrilled that Carol is the first woman regional director from ASCE Region 2. Carol has been tireless in her pursuit as a JEDI master in the civil engineering profession and at Urban Engineers. I am also ecstatic that for the first time ever, the ASCE National Board of Directors has eight women out of its 18 members. We need to continue working on this important subject as the current workforce crisis is only going to be solved if we diversify the profession."

Ms. Martsolf was previously elected as a regional governor in the fall of 2015 and served two terms. A graduate of Temple University and a Professional Engineer with 29 years of experience, Ms. Martsolf has utilized her technical expertise and career knowledge to create the Urban Training Institute and develop dynamic training programs. Under her leadership, the Institute quickly evolved into an award-winning and highly respected institution. In 2008, Urban became an Accredited Provider with the International Association for Continuing Education and Training and received the National Exemplar Award for Internal Training in 2010.

The program has since evolved to become a dynamic business for Urban, offering professional development opportunities for the entire A/E/C community, who can now participate in the Institute’s classes from anywhere in the world through an online connection. Since its inception, the program is responsible for awarding more than 20,000 professional development hours to its participants. Additionally, Ms. Martsolf has facilitated over 60 courses, workshops, and presentations on JEDI and other related topics to ASCE audiences, private firms, and clients, to help expand the understanding and importance of these important concepts.
