Jordan Wood, PE, may not have all the answers, but he always knows where to find them. For the past four years, Jordan has been the Assistant Resident Engineer for the $35 million construction related to Interchange 8 of the NJTA 6 to 9 Widening Program. During this time, he has been fortunate to be on a team of seasoned veterans and dedicated young people who learn from each other on a daily basis. He also knows that he can simply pick up the phone and call just about anyone at Urban, “Knowing you have the resources and people available who will stop whatever they’re doing to help you is invaluable.” Jordan has relied on this approach on this project more than others because of the challenging conditions present. “This assignment has been an excellent learning tool for how to handle projects that were not buildable based on the designed construction sequence and given utility constraints.” The construction of a 265-foot-long, single-span, 11-foot, steel-curved girder bridge, for instance, has kept him on his toes.

The bridge is the second largest single-span bridge in New Jersey as well as the first Single Point Urban Intersection (SPUI) in the northeast region. The project could set the tone for future northeast roadway projects. It has already set the tone for Jordan’s career. “This has been an amazing growth experience for me,” he said. “One day, I hope to be in a position to return the favor for all those who have helped me become a better engineer.”
