LACMTA Westside Purple Line Extension,        Los Angeles, CA

Spurred by tremendous population growth Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) aims to extend the existing Purple Line Subway - also known as the D-Line - from Wilshire/Western through Beverly Hills and Century City to UCLA’s Westwood campus, with seven new stations. Phase I is underway and includes the construction of three new stations. This estimated overall $9 billion project will help Los Angeles combat excessive traffic — projections see the removal of 7,000 vehicles after construction — and lower air pollution.

Urban's Role

We completed the Risk Assessments required prior to preliminary engineering, final design, and Full-Funding Grant Agreement for Section 1 of this project.  Urban also conducted a Risk Assessment for Section 2, as part of the FTA’s Entry to Engineering and FFGA evaluation. These assessments cover engineering plans for track and station construction, vehicle procurement, and utility work.

We also evaluated the project's environmental issues relative to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and reviewed the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. Further, we identified potential risks and recommended strategies to reduce them.

Since 2014, we have provided a wide range of consulting services, including ongoing evaluations of design, construction, contracts, cost, and schedules.
